Autobiography
My Primary School was Downfield then up to Morgan in 1949. One of my main interests in school days was in the cadets, having been a founder member of Gilroy’s Navy and reaching the dizzy heights of Petty Officer by my 6th year.
After leaving Morgan in 1955, I went to Queen’s College, St. Andrews University then Dundee College of Education.
I joined the staff of George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh in April 1961 as an assistant teacher of Chemistry. During my time in Heriot’s I became an officer in the Combined Cadet Force.
In April 1962 I married Margaret Fyfe, a former pupil of Harris Academy who trained at Dundee College of Education as a primary teacher.
In August 1968 I became Principal Teacher of Chemistry in Kirkcaldy High School and retired from that post in June 1997.
Our two daughters were born in 1968 and 1971. Four granddaughters, all in Fife keep us young in heart.
Over the years I have maintained an interest in walking, photography, gardening, geology and rather poor golf. I use my computer to edit video recording of Scottish scenery, especially from my regular Friday walks and sell these to fellow walkers and friends. Nearly £1000 from this has been donated to charity, especially Cancer Research.
For many years I was a member of Kirkcaldy Orchestral Society having played the violin in the Morgan Academy Orchestra.
